Multi-Family Construction Operations Manager
**This position is located in Halifax, NS. Qualified candidates must be willing / able to relocate to the Halifax area**
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management and a proven track record of successfully managing day-to-day operations. This position is pivotal in driving business growth through effective relationship management with architects, professional and trade partners, clients, internal stakeholders, and new team members.
The Operations Manager is the president's right-hand person and runs the operational side of Portucana Construction. Integrating systematic operating methods is crucial. The OM is the leader of the management team and will lead by example in this arena, encouraging internal Portucana Construction team members to employ the same "systems thinking" approach.

- Systematization: Establishing and enhancing operational systems towards efficiency and standardization.
- Financial Management: Ensuring projects are executed on budget.
Responsibilities:
Project Delivery
- Communication: Clearly communicate project details, timelines, and expectations to team members.
- Scheduling and planning
- Long-term and short-term project scheduling to inform and coordinate trades and internal team members
- Hosting new project kickoff meetings and regular team meetings (WSRs) with internal team members as well as external professional partners
- Ensuring a strong project close-out occurs through the project team and all post-production activities are completed
Mentorship
- Work with internal team members on establishing annual goals and reviewing semi-annually to encourage progress
- Provide ongoing support and feedback to internal team members as required
- In collaboration with the President, attract and recruit new team members to align with continued growth based on human resource needs
- Monitoring health and safety protocols and encouraging project teams to comply
Deepening Relationships
- Expanding trade base to match the increasing size and complexity of projects
- Thorough oversight of the RFP/RFI process within pre-production to ensure clarification of scope and pricing to avoid miscommunications, delays, and overages in budget through execution
- Coordinating the design team toward deliverables of drawings, design specifications, and material selections
Systematization
- Job packages: Establish the process and ensure these are complete and facilitate the transition from the pre-construction process to the Project Manager
- Contracts with professional and trade partners
- Establishing a formalized trade bid process
- RFP
- RFI
- PO and/or Trade Partner agreements
- Change order process: Establish the process and ensure weekly completion to keep budgets current and stakeholders informed
- Weekly project progress reporting (mechanism will be Buildwise's daily logs eventually - for now, using the GDoc)
- Production checklists to ensure QA/QC
Financials
- Providing feedback and assistance to the Estimator during the pre-construction process to ensure that timelines and project budgets are realistic and achievable
- Financial overwatch and training of PM's and Site Superintendents to improve real-time cost awareness as well as communication between this role and accounting
- Facilitate After Action Reports (AARs) to discuss lessons learned and measure team performance

Compensation
- $110,000 - $125,000 based on experience
